ON THE COURT: The Saint Mary of the Woods Pomeroys defeated the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the USCAA Volleyball National Championships. In the first set, Saint Mary of the Woods got out to an early 5-2 lead. The Pomeroys continued to hold the lead at 15-10, eventually winning the set 25-18. SUNY Canton started off strong in the second set taking a 7-3 lead. The Kangaroos continued to hold onto the lead throughout the set 14-9 and then 17-12. SUNY Canton won the set 25-17 to tie the match at 1-1.

SUNY Canton kept their momentum going into the third set, taking a 7-1 and then 12-2 lead over the Pomeroys. Saint Mary of the Woods kept battling and cut the deficit to 17-13. The score was all tied up at 21-21 and then again at 23-23. The Pomeroys took the set 25-23 to go up 2-1 in the match. The fourth set began with the Roos taking an early lead only to have it tied up 8-8. SUNY Canton then took an 11-8 lead and extended it to 15-10. The Roos tied the match again (2-2) winning the set 25-14.

Entering the fifth and final set SUNY Canton got out to an early lead 4-0. Saint Mary of the Woods College battled back to tie it at five, and then again at seven. The Pomeroys answered, taking the lead while the Roos tried to battle back scoring four straight points. Saint Mary of the Woods prevailed winning the fifth and final set 15-11.
