ON THE COURT: In the first game of day two of the 2014 USCAA Volleyball National Championship, #5 Berea College rallied back from losing the first set to defeat #3 Alfred State College, 2-1 (25-17, 20-25, 12-15). Each team now has a record of 2-1 in pool action with one game remaining before bracket play.

Alfred State used a quick start to gain control of the first set as USCAA First Team All-American, Kay Pfleghardt, had eight of her 14 total kills in the first set. With the strong play of Pfleghardt, the Pioneers were able to keep enough separation between the two teams to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.

Each team began set number two by trading points to have a tied score of 3-3.  The Mountaineers took control of the set from there as they only committed four errors compared to 12 kills. Down 15-20, the Pioneers were forced to take a timeout to stop the momentum of the Mountaineers.  Out of the timeout, the Pioneers scored three straight points to force a Berea timeout. Following the Berea timeout, Berea committed two errors to give Alfred State College an opportunity to complete the comeback set win, however, the Mountaineers would score the final two points to tie the match a 1-1.

The third and final set to 15 featured back and forth action between the two teams for the majority of the set. Berea used a .231 hitting percentage to have slight control for the entire set to complete the comeback from losing the first set to win the match.
