ON THE COURT: With the second upset of the day at Dana Hall, the #7 Tennessee Temple University Crusaders defeated the #5 Berea College Mountaineers in two straight sets, 2-0 (23-25, 20-25), to earn their first victory of pool A action.

First set of action was a tightly contested set as neither team could create separation to start.  The Crusaders were finally able to take a 9-13 lead to force a Mountaineer timeout. Following the timeout, the mountaineers closed the gap and took a brief lead, 21-20, to force a Crusader timeout. However, Tennessee Temple scored the next three points after the timeout to earn the set victory.

Set two featured much of the same between the two teams.  The two teams began deadlocked at six apiece before Tennessee Temple used a 6-2 run to take a 8-12 lead.  Again, the Mountaineers fought back to decrease their deficit to 12-15, however, the Crusaders would use a 7-2 run to keep the lead for good and earn the match victory.

QUICK HITTERS:

  • Junior, Naomi Posada, and senior, Victoria Smith, led the Crusaders with a game-high 9 kills
  • Senior, Lydia Vick, recorded a game-high 11 digs for the Crusaders
  • Nicole Baker led the Mountaineers with 8 kills
  • Sophomore, Taylor Ashworth, recorded 10 digs for the Mountaineers
  • The Crusaders held a 42-26 advantage in digs for the match
